The Old Way to Darwin

This is a photo that belongs to Ernie at Cooinda, he took it in 1992 which doesn't sound like all that long ago to me, must be a sign of age when 15 years seems like just yesterday! It is the Stuart Highway which was the only way into Darwin at the time. And Wendy McHugh was just telling me about the trip when there was nothing but a dirt track and the trip took about 8 hours. It is only about 2.5 hours now thank goodness! It was pretty narrow in this photo, wouldn't have wanted to meet too many road trains, that is for sure.
