My Record is Intact

I don't want to brag, but I will force myself!!! Ian's sister Margaret and her husband Martin are here visiting from Canada. You can't visit the Top End without fishing for barra, that's for sure. So we gave Shannon a call and booked ourselves in. It is not the best time of the year for river fishing so we headed for Yellow Waters billabong. Now in case you don't know, a billabong is like a twist in a river that becomes a big lake when the flooding recedes. Yellow Waters is a huge body of water but at this time of the year no water is flowing in or out. The temp is about 31 celsius so the fish are pretty lethargic. We trolled and casted and not much was happening. We saw lots of birds......

A heron sitting in the tree top watching us go by

Big mob of brown ducks

A pretty brown bird fishing

Couple of magpie geese on parade

And a fair sized croc caught a barra and was munching on the bank.

Some young jabirus were very curious about a small croc going by, hope they learn crocs are not friendly fellas before it is too late.

Another croc came up pretty close to get a look at us!

Finally a fish hit and Ian caught this little one, better than nothing Ian, don't be upset that it is so small, hehehehe!

Then Ian got a little bit bored so he started doing a little croc spotting

So it left me with no options, I had to show everyone how to do it!!!

At 78cm not the biggest I have ever caught, but for a billabong barra at the end of September, it's not too shabby! It was a real fighter, tail dancing tail dancing on the water, then under the boat. So of course, soon as the photo was taken, we threw him back and bought some fish for dinner on the way home!

To end the day, a spectacular sunset through the smoke from a burn, magpie geese flying overhead, this is beautiful country!
