The Build Up is Starting!

The temps are going up up up these days, the build-up is starting. I could feel it but here is a sure fire sign, the corellas are getting hot and sweaty and are gathering wherever they can for a shower. Here are some pictures of them. I sat and watched for probably 15 minutes, they were having a wonderful time, rolling around in the wet grass, hanging upside down in the nearby trees, just enjoying the spray from the sprinkler.

Footy Training!!!

Darius has decided to pursue his football career, Australian Rules Football that is, commonly known as "footy." He really is very good despite the fact that his feet are killing him because his boots are too small. We will have to pick up a new pair next time in Darwin. Here he is at training (translate practice), note the escarpment in the background, it is a beautiful site for the pitch (field). I did my 30 minute run around the perimeter so I fit in my "training" too!

Mahbilil Festival

Here are some pics from the festival. Top left is Nabarlek on stage, they are a local group and are doing very well nationally. They have a great sound. If you want to hear them let me know and I will send you a sample. Next is one of a mounted copper who came out from Darwin for the event. Then a group of people dancing on the grass to Nabarlek. We had fireworks over the lake too, done by Rocky a firie (aussie for firefighter) who loves doing pyrotechnic displays. Bottom left is Psycus! the fire dancer, he is really good and always gives a clinic for the kids who give their own fire dancing display later in the evening. I have a DVD of that, again if you want to see it, I will send you a copy. Last is a paper mache Jabiru who comes out of the community center for special occasions. The shiny clean curly heads in front of it belong to a couple of the local kids.
